Fukuhara Hachirō (福原八郎, pen name Hassenrō Jūnin) was a prominent figure in the operations of Nanbei Takushoku Kabushiki Kaisha (南米拓殖株式会社, South American Development Company), an organization founded to facilitate Japanese immigration to South America and promote agricultural development in South America, particularly in Brazil. The collection consists of the diaries of Fukuhara Hachirō, documenting his research and activities in the Amazon region, and printed material.

Scope and content:

The collection consists of the diaries of Fukuhara Hachirō, written between February 11- June 30, 1935, and documenting his research and activities in the Amazon region, and printed material. The diaries include personal observations of individuals and events, as well as accounts of interactions with the local Ministry of Colonial Affairs.
