Theater, and the history of theater in San Francisco. Additionally a 1924 playbill from a production of Hamlet put on by USC
and The Greek Theater is present.
Originally part of the Ethel Barrymore Memorial Theatre Arts Collection at the University of Southern California Library
100 Series, and was labeled 100-37.
Ralph Pincus 1874-1956 was an American theater manager and producer who founded the Wigwam Theater in 1906. He was lauded
for bringing "great names" to the vaudeville stage in San Francisco. Pincus also served as president of the Newsboys' Union
and he stopped feuding between uptown and ferry gangs.
The Wigwam Theater was the first theater in San Francisco's Mission district to be opened after the fire in 1906. Originally
operating as a large tent, the building for the theater was constructed in 1913. It boasted 1,200 seats and ran a schedule
of 3 shows daily with 4 on Saturdays and Sundays. The theater was sold in 1925 and was remodeled and opened under the name
the New Rialto Theater in 1930.
