This collection consists of subject files related to various queer issues, activities, and organizations collected by Christine Schmidt, as well as audiotapes of “Diagonally Speaking.” Significant topics and organizations include discrimination against queer people at SJSU, homophobia in the media, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) (South Bay, San Francisco Bay Area and USA chapters), ROTC discrimination against queer people, and United Way of Santa Clara County. Biographical / historical:

Christine Schmidt was Programs Director at the Billy DeFrank Community Center in San Jose from 1992 to 1994. As a student at San Jose State University (SJSU), she hosted the radio talk show, “Diagonally Speaking,” and was a student organizer with the Alternative Life Political Action Committee (ALPAC).
