Description
This collection consists of materials presumably filed as reference and administrative materials within the Los Angeles Examiner's library, including City Editor's Schedules and topical files, arranged alphabetically, containing pamphlets and other documents.
Background
The Hearst Corporation, founded by William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951) in 1887, has acquired newspapers nationwide and by the mid-1920s Hearst had a nationwide string of 28 newspapers, including the Los Angeles Examiner. It printed its last issue on January 7, 1962, and then it merged with the Los Angeles Daily Herald to form the Los Angeles Herald Express which ran from 1962 to 1989.
