"These lecture notes from a course delivered in 1800 are an important record of Dumas' thinking on the nature of disease between his thesis of 1787,' La nature de la fièvre et sur celle des maladies chroniques' and the 'Doctrine générale des maladies chroniques' of 1812, one of his principal works. The diseases dealt with include nervous and mental diseases -- including convulsions, epilepsy, hypochondria and depressions -- as well as somatic diseases and fevers. The first 80 pages are a general introduction to the causes of diseases and their classification and prognosis. The manuscript is clearly written with few corrections and provided with an index. The student's name is not recorded."--Antiquarian bookseller's description, 2015.
