Description
The collection contains photographs, slides, and magazines, that document the work of Rick Jasany. His subjects included daily life in San Francisco and street life in the gay community in the 1970s and 1980s. For the magazine "Vector," Jasany created photo essays on bathhouses and gay male erotica. The papers contain a handful of "Vector" issues from 1974-1976 with Jasany's published work. There are some photos of Harvey Milk and Pat Norman, and formal shots for models.
Background
Rick Jasany (August 15, 1937-November 22, 2012) was a photographer who worked in Harvey Milk and Scott Smith's Castro Camera store in the late 1970s. His work includes commercial magazine photography, and art photography, as well as more informal documentation of the gay community. His work is largely credited under the name Rick Jarrett, and was published in "Vector" magazine, among others.
