Biographical / historical:

Mennonite Brethren workers serving under Mennonite Central Committee established the first Mennonite Brethren congregation in Germany near Neuwied in 1950. This congregation was made up mostly of refugees from Russia and Poland who fled to Germany following World War II. A few years later the Board of Foreign Missions sent North American missionaries to Germany and Austria, where they established several more small congregations. In 1960 the Bund der Europäische Mennonitische Brüdergemeinde was established, an independent national conference that works together with missionaries representing Mennonite Brethren Missions/Services.
