    The collection was donated to the Sherman Library by David A. W. Young in 1997.

    Biography/Administrative History

    David A. W. Young served as treasurer and assistant secretary to Volk-McLain Communities, Inc., as treasurer and controller for the Great Southwest Corporation, and as secretary-treasurer of the Newport Beach-based Buccola Co. He also served as chairman of the Real Estate Committee of the California CPA Society.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The collection consists of correspondence, reports, financial data, clippings and ephemera related to the real estate investments and activities of various corporations and development companies. These companies, some of which were subsidiaries of the Penn Central Company, include the Macco Corporation (Newport Beach, Calif.), the Macco Realty Company (Newport Beach, Calif.), the Great Southwest Corporation (Los Angeles, Calif.), Volk-McLain Communities, Inc. (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Six Flags, Inc. (Los Angeles, Calif.). Some of the development projects and subdivisions represented in the collection include Coto de Caza, Lake California, Porter Ranch, and Rancho California.
