Description
Contains course material, notes, subject files, maps, journals, photographs and slides pertaining to Brigham A. Arnold, instructor and Head of the Department of Geography at Sacramento State.
Background
Brigham Alicen Arnold was born November 4, 1917 in the state of Michigan to Harold Alicen Arnold and Virginia "Jennie" Peterson. During the Great Depression, his family moved between Sharon, Wisconsin and Tucson, Arizona. After graduating from Tucson High School in 1935, Brigham balanced studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arizona and working his family's farmland in Wisconsin. By 1939, he changed his major to Anthropology and attended Archaeological Field School from 1940-1941. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, which sent him to Oregon State University to complete his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. The military shipped Brigham off in 1944, where he traveled to Casablanca, Rome and Trieste, Italy.
