Description
USC's founding is tied to the Methodist Church; it's first president, Marion M. Bovard, was the Secretary of the United Methodist Church Southern California Conference. The two boxes of records contain the Minutes (later called the Journal) of the annual Southern California Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in published form. Box 1 covers the period from 1879 through 1917; Box 2 covers 1918 through 1938. By 1915, the publications were referred to as journals rather than minutes. Many of the conference records have been digitized by the Church: http://www.calpacumc.org/archiveshistory/.
