Abstract: Photograph album of cartes-de-visite from Mexico, most likely during the period of the French intervention in Mexico, when the French invaded and installed Maximilian, Archduke of Austria, as Emperor of Mexico. The photographs include images of Maximilian and members of his family; various Mexican nobility, both male and female; Napoleon III and the Empress Eugenie and their children; Mexican heads of state and military figures. The majority of the photographs are identified, although some are not, and some are hand-colored.

Scope and Contents

Photograph album of cartes-de-visite from Mexico, most likely during the period of the French intervention in Mexico, when the French invaded and installed Maximilian, Archduke of Austria, as Emperor of Mexico. The photographs include images of Maximilian and members of his family; various Mexican nobility, both male and female; Napoleon III and the Empress Eugenie and their children; Mexican heads of state and military figures.
