This collection consists of the memorabilia and papers of Rufus B. von Kleinsmid (1875-1964), the former president of the
University of Southern California (1921-1947).
Background
Rufus Bernhard von Kleinsmid (1875-1964) was the fifth president of the University of Southern California from 1921–1947.
Kleinsmid and his administration expanded professional training programs, and presided over a building program that added
nine major structures to the university campus. During his first decade in office, USC attained full national accreditation
and established a graduate school. In 1947 Kleinsmid stepped down as president and became USC's chancellor.
