Description
The Claud Beelman collection contains original drawings of mostly commercial buildings constructed in the Los Angeles area
between the early 1920s and the early 1960s. Some projects consist of preliminary sketches, working drawings, and presentation
drawings; some projects also include structural or mechanical plans as well. The drawings are mainly original graphite on
tracing paper or ink on linen. There are a few blueprints and diazotypes.
Background
Claud W. Beelman was born in Ohio in 1883 and attended architecture school at Harvard. After practicing on the east coast
and in Ohio and Indiana, Beelman moved to Los Angeles in 1921. He formed a partnership with Aleck Curlett (Curlett & Beelman),
which lasted until 1932. Beelman died in 1963.
