Biographical / Historical
Corporal Alger E. Brown was born in 1920 and lived in Michigan before enlisting in the army in October 1942. Brown was a Corporal
for the United States Navy and his letters from 1944 to 1945 state that he was in New Guinea, the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia),
and the Moluccas Islands. His letters are addressed to M. J. (Mary Jane) Fishbaugh, who was born in Ohio in 1920. Following
the end of the war, Corporal Brown and Mary Jane got married in February 1946.

Scope and Contents
The Corporal Alger E. Brown Collection (1944-1945) consists of one box of personal letters written by Corporal A. (Alger)
E. Brown. This collection, which dates from January 1944 to March 1945, includes letters, v-mail, and invitations generated
during World War Two. The collection is addressed to Mary Jane (M.J.) Fishbaugh, Brown's future wife following the conclusion
of the war.
