Scope and Content of Collection
Photograph album containing 42 cabinet photographs, cartes de visite and tintypes apparently related to the John Eleazer Albee
and Erastus Ormsby families. Most of the photographs are not identified; however, those that are named are Albee and Ormsby.
Most of the studios are in the Michigan area and Midwest: Bay City, Michigan; Saginaw, Michigan; Fort Dodge, Iowa; Detroit,
Michigan; Adrian, Michigan; Omro, Wisconsin; Marysville, Kansas; Blissfield, Michigan; Windsor, Ontario; Monroe, Michigan;
Omaha, Nebraska. Several are from Massachusetts: Amherst, Westfield, North Brookfield. Based on the names and locations, the
Albee photographs appear to be related to John Eleazer Albee (1805-1884) and his wife Lydia B. Wellman (1805-1883) of Amherst,
Massachusetts. The "Annie" who is addressed to on the back of at least two photographs may be Ann Grace Albee (1924-1976),
descendant of John and Lydia. The other family referenced, the Ormsbys, appear to be descendants of Erastus D. Ormsby (1822-1899)
and wife Ruth Naomi Weeks (1822-1895) through Mildred Estelle Ormsby (m. William B. Hazen) and their daughter Ruth Gladys
Hazen (1891-1946).
