In 1947, Hahn was elected to the Los Angeles City Council. He was later elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, serving from 1952 until his retirement in 1992.

She recalles the Kennedy assassination and her experiences as an African-American student during the Watts Riots. She also discusses her experiences abroad in Heidelberg around 1965. She tells a story about Fred Casmir, faculty member, who was on the trip. She recalls that he was a Nazi youth and his mother still lived in East Berlin. She tells the story of how Dr. Casmir snuck his mother out of East Berlin.
