    Biographical/Historical note

    George Hagar was born in Lincoln, Massachusetts on 01/17/1820. As a young man he was Colonel of the Twentieth Regiment of the New Hampshire militia. He left New Hampshire on 03/01/1849 bound for San Francisco, taking a ship around Cape Horn. He arrived in San Francisco 6 months later and tried his hand, unsuccessfully, at gold mining. He ran a general store in Stockton for a time before moving to Colusa in 1860. He married Sarah A. Winship in 1867. He was President of Colusa County Bank from 1870 until his death on 08/12/1902.
