The Robert G. Aldrich logbook and correspondence, 1843-1930 (SAFR 23816, HDC 1660) collection contains a logbook written by Aldrich while aboard the CONSTANCE (schooner) and several letters to his sisters. The collection has been processed to the file unit level and is available for research with some restrictions due to its fragile condition.
The logbook contains a passage on the placement of guns during a military exercise, notes on nautical navigation rules and examples, mathematical lessons and exercises, and sails data. Much of the logbook contains poems written by Aldrich. Tucked behind the front cover of the logbook were several items including letters written by Aldrich to his sisters 1843 and 1899, the latter with an envelope that reads, From R.G. Aldrich U.S.N. Among other loose items are a 1930 letter bequeathing a camphor wood chest from Mollie A. Webber to her nephew, Robert E. Aldrich originally in small envelope that reads: To be opened at my death, Mollie Aldrich Webber; hydraulic hose advertisement by R.G. Aldrich; white silk doily with a color image of the battleship OLYMPIA 16 x 16 cm (6.5 x 6.5 inches), see separation sheet.
