    Abstract: This collection contains documents created by Alice Baldwin, Pomona College Class of 1913. An author, artist, and extensive traveller, Baldwin produced many diaries, drawings, stories, and other works during her life. This collection contains materials produced during and shortly before her time at Pomona College, as well as later correspondence to her daughter, Ruth McCuaig. Noteable materials include travel diaries, Baldwin's artwork and writings, and correspondence regarding Claremont sculptor Burt W. Johnson.

    Items have been foldered, with bound diaries and travelogues placed in the front of the boxes. Items laid-in to the diaries have been placed in their own sleeves.

    Biography / Administrative History

    This collection contains materials relating to Alice Baldwin, of the Pomona College Class of 1913. Baldwin was an avid diarist, author, and correspondent with her friends and family. She traveled extensively in Europe and America, and kept travel diaries from her excursions. During her time at Pomona College, she published several short stories in the campus newspaper, The Student Life, and received several letters of commendation for her academic accomplishments from President Blaisdell. This also contains correspondence about Claremont sculptor Burt W. Johnson.

    Scope and Content of the Collection

    Collection contains materials relating to the life, work and travels of Alice Baldwin. Contains correspondence, diaries, travel diaries from trips to Europe and the American Southwest, sketches, Pomona College memorabilia, photographs, and scrapbooks. Also contains examples of Baldwin's poetry, short stories, and history papers.
