    Biography/Administrative History

    Laura Oakley (1879 - 1957) was a silent film actress and comedienne. She was elected Chief of Police in 1913, shortly after Universal City was incorporated, when 8 of the 28 city officials were won by women. Little over a year later, she was sworn in as a police officer of Los Angeles and given a number 99.
