Biographical / historical:

Texas Tomboy Brand Prod. is the business name for the videos produced by trans artist and filmmaker Texas Starr. His films have been shown internationally in film festivals, museums, and galleries.

Texas is a trans man who was born in Houston, TX and settled in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1990s. He attended Cal-Arts for Photography and he was a founding preservation technician for Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC)'s Preservation Department. BAVC is a non-profit video and post-production facility.

He also worked for 7 years at the New Zealand Film Archive. For 18 years he was the travel coordinator for the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival (Frameline) which inspired him to enroll in the film school at San Francisco Art Institute.

Outside of video, film and photography, Texas was assistant to Susan Stryker, who was the Executive Director at the GLBT Historical Society of Northern California. Texas and Stryker were in GENDERNAUTS by German director Monika Treut; it was the first film about trans folks that was not derogatory. Texas was also a co-founder of Liminal Space, the first all-Trans gallery.
