Background

Scope and content:

The Biographical File contains birth certificates, baptismal certificates, educational records, employment records, and military service records pertaining to Krat and some of his family. The family file within this series contains correspondence between Krat and his family members, including correspondence received by his wife, Daria Ivanovna, and their daughter, Olga. There is also correspondence from Krat's brother, Agei Vasilevich.

The Writings series contains essays Krat wrote on various subjects, as well as associated correspondence.

The Correspondence series consists of letters received by Krat originating from émigré organizations and various prominent people in the Russian diaspora. Many contain information about life in the diaspora and also efforts to secure the immigration of Displaced Persons.

The Subject File contains many newspaper clippings about the Russian diaspora, as well as documents on mining and the oil industry. The subject file on the oil industry contains a number of large blueprints of oil wells, as well as geological charts.

The Photographs series in this collection contains images of mining operations and Krat's life in Los Angeles, as well as miscellaneous photographs from the nineteenth century.

Russian mining and petroleum engineer; subsequently émigré in the United States.
