- Scope and content:

Manuscript township and range maps, with hand coloring, describe roughly the southern third of San Francisco with ranchos and tracts identified, acreage and owners' names written in ink, and include pencil notes regarding assessments. Maps date before 1891, and may have been produced by William D. Walker, Manufacturer of Block Books. Public Land Survey System sections mapped are within Township 1 South, Range 6 West and include Sections 13, 24, 25, 26, 27, 34, 35, 36. Within Township 2 South, Range 5 West are mapped Sections 19, 20, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35. To this volume is appended an Index of Homestead map volumes (2 pages), printed by F. E. Berier, Electric Pen Print, San Francisco. The Index refers to other homestead map volumes, not this particular volume of maps.
- Biographical / historical:

William Devereux Walker engaged in real estate business in San Francisco between 1887-1899; city directories also described him as a manufacturer of block books. Francis Eugene Berier worked for Dakin Publishing Co. in San Francisco and as salesman for Sanborn-Perris Map Co., later becoming manager of San Francisco and Oakland offices.
