    Biography

    Stanley John Weyman (7 August 1855 – 10 April 1928) was an English writer of historical romance. His most popular works were written in 1890–1895 and set in late 16th and early 17th-century France.

    Scope and Content

    This small collection primarily consists of correspondence addressed to Stanley John Weyman related to his historical novel Under the Red Robe. The bulk of the letters are from Edward Everett Rose, 1862-1939, an American playwright, who adapted the Weyman’s novel for stage at the Haymarket Theater in 1896. Weyman also received letters from Cyril Maude, a manager, and actors from the production.
    Other material related to Under the Red Robe includes memorandum books, photographs, and theater programs.
