    Existence and Location of Copies

    These papers are from Margaret Silsby, a biographer of Cachin who interviewed him and obtained copies of his diaries. This collection contains copies only; disposition of originals is unknown.

    Biographical Note

    Marcel Cachin was born 20 September 1869. He was a French politician and one of the founding members of the French Communist Party (Section française de l'Internationale communiste), in 1920. Before this, he was a union promoter and he travelled to Russia in 1917 during World War I. He then served in the National Assembly until his death on 12 February 1958.
