Location: American River 29th Street A sign reading "Captain Johan A. Sutter Founder of Sacramento Landed Here August 12th 1839 Nine Years later GOLD was discovered on his property at Coloma by JAMES W. MARSHALL Southern Pacific Lines" The sign is placed in a wooded area. This was located on the present site of the city dump along the American River between 29th and 30th(extension) Streets on Souther Pacific R. R. property.
