Location: 10 Canterbury Road North Sacramento Home of Carl E. Johnston. "10" Canterbury Road in North Sacramento. January 16th, 1940. Site of the famous Denver-Gilbert duel, fought with rifles at 30 paces in 1852 under the ancient Oak trees. J.W. Denver was a State Senator from Klamath and Trinity Counties. Ed. Gilbert was a newspaper man and editor born in Troy, N.Y. Was one of the founders of the "Alta" California" newspaper. Gilbert was the first man from the Pacific Coast to be a U.S. Congressman. He was 30 years old when he died on that fatal August (2nd) morning in 1852
