Description
Papers of Francisco A. Lomelí, Professor Emeritus of Chicano/a Studies and Latin American literature at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Background
Francisco Lomelí (1947- ) is a Professor Emeritus of both the Chicano/a Studies and Spanish and Portuguese Departments at UC Santa Barbara. He earned a B.A. in Spanish and Chicano Studies and a M.A. in Spanish at San Diego State University in 1971 and 1974 respectively, before going on to earn a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Latin American Literature at the University of New Mexico in 1978. After graduating, Lomelí accepted an assistant professor position at UCSB, where he stayed full time for the next four decades before retiring in 2018. His research focuses include literary history, Chicano literature, New Mexico studies and Latin American literature, particularly focused on narrative theory and regional studies of Cental America, Mexico, and Chile.
