    Abstract: The collection contains minutes, discussion bulletins, agendas, notes, audiocassettes, subject files, a draft resolution, and one commercial lease document that reflect the founding and administration of the Socialist Workers Organization (SWO) from 2001-2004. The SWO is a Trotskyist political organization that was founded by expelled members of Socialist Action in 1999.

    Content Description

    The Socialist Workers Organiztion collection, 1985, 2001-2004, undated, comprises bulletins, agendas, minutes, audiocassettes, and notes from the organization's Founding Convention in 2001. Various files regarding Socialist Viewpoint magazine are present, as are minutes, correspondence, ballots, and Steering Committee minutes, draft resolution, and related documents which reflect the activities and statuses of the organization. The collection includes subject files related to the anti-war movement, Mumia Abu-Jamal, and Palestine, among other subjects, in addition to a subject file of documents regarding the death of Sylvia Weinstein. One commercial lease for the organization's headquarters in San Francisco is also present.

    Biographical / Historical

    The Socialist Workers Organization (SWO) is a political organization that was formed by expelled members of Socialist Action in 1999. The goal of the organization is to build a revolutionary Marxist political party for the working class in the tradition of the Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party under James P. Cannon, and Socialist Action from 1984-1999. The SWO is affiliated with Socialist Viewpoint magazine.

    The Socialist Workers Organization collection was donated to the Holt Labor Library in San Francisco between 2004 and 2019, and was acquired by the Gerth Archives and Special Collections at California State University, Dominguez Hills, in 2019.
