    Arrangement

    Slides are grouped together loosely based on geographical location. Family photographs are grouped together, as are Oakland Grove - Shafter freeway construction photos.

    Scope and Contents

    Color slides taken by Claire England in San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley document the construction of the Grove-Shafter Freeway and the Bay Area Rapid Transit tracks circa 1969-1970. Also includes family photos from 1960 and a trip to New York in 1949 and a trip to the New York Fair in 1967. While in New York, England took photos of steamships and in Oakland, she photographed the "S.S. President Coolidge" a luxury steamship completed in 1931 and used as an Oakland troop ship between December 1941 and when it was sunk in October 1942.
