Biographical / historical:

Charles E. Leinberger, born June 12, 1863, worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad primarily as an air brake instructor from 1883 to 1931, when he retired. He was the son of Henry Leinberger, a prominent cattleman of Sacramento and Yolo County, and Mary Leinberger. He grew up in Washington Yolo County, now part of West Sacramento, formerly the town of Broderick. In 1887, Mr. Leinberger married Katie Twomey of Sacramento. They had five children: Henry, Charles Jr., William, Louisa, and Elizabeth. In 1910, he built the Leinberger-Ryser House on 1425 G Street. He died on October 14, 1951.
