    Historical records created by Nevada County and the cities of Grass Valley, Nevada City, have been deposited in the Doris Foley Library for Historical Research for public access.

    Biography/Administrative History

    Nevada County, formed in 1851, played a large role in California's Gold Rush history and development. The area has been a continuous crossroad for travelers in America's Westward migration, for immigrants, and for visitors such as future notables Mark Twain and Herbert Hoover. Records allow for in-depth research into family history, house history, and the myriad of 19th and 20th century details that reveal the growth of a unique community.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Many public records of the governmental entities in the county are housed in the Doris Foley Library for Historical Research. The collection includes volumes and/or microform of deeds and property tax assessments, maps, voter registrations, civil, criminal, and district court proceedings, naturalizations, probate indexes and cases, indexes to births, marriage, and deaths.
