Abstract: This series contains records that relate to the SFD's role in urban development by assisting the city in commercial and residential developments in Sacramento. The SFD was included in the planning process in several critical aspects. The department was responsible for providing comment on Environmental Impact Reports for city projects, as well as plan checking and providing guidance in the city's incorporation of outlying neighborhoods from a fire response and emergency preparedness perspective. In addition, the SFD carried out various emergency planning roles and were instrumental in creating response plans in the event of natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, as well as hazardous material accidents. Of note in this collection is the nuclear disaster response plans, which were developed in tandem with the planned opening of Rancho Seco Power Plant.
