    Arrangement

    Biographical / Historical

The Bay Area Radio Drama (BARD) was established as a nonprofit organization in 1987 by Erik Bauersfeld with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and other national and international sources. BARD has worked in close association with KPFA-FM, in Berkeley, California, where Bauersfeld, was Director of Drama and Literature from 1961-1992.
BARD collaborated with Earwax Studios editing the sound production for Santa Monica's public radio member station KCRW's 29-part dramatization of Sinclair Lewis's Babbit. With sound designer Randy Thom BARD produced the Eugene O'Neill Radio Series. Titles within this series include Hughie, Emperor Jones and Lazarus Laughed. In association with Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR), Bard produced Hörspiel USA, a series of translated works representing a wide range of material produced in Germany following World War Two.
All BARD productions were first broadcast on KPFA, then to other stations via National Public Radio and overseas to BBC, Australian Radio, WDR Köln and Public Radio International.
Erik Bauersfeld (1992-2016) was an American radio dramatist, teacher and voice actor. He began working at Pacifica Radio station KPFA-FM in Berkeley 1961 serving as Director of KPFA's Drama and Literature Department for 31 years.
Bauersfeld voiced the characters for Admiral Ackbar and Bib Fortuna in Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi (1983) and Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens (2015).
