Provenance
Gift of the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors in 1983.
Historical Note
The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission was formed in 1922 to advise the Board of Supervisors on all planning
issues. In January 1936, the Federal Work Projects Administration, under the sponsorship of the Regional Planning Commission,
began conducting a survey of natural land types and existing land cover and use in the Los Angeles metropolitan area, to facilitate
the creation of a Master Plan of Land Use, as required by the 1937 California Planning Act. The survey was completed in July
1940 and culminated in volumes of colored maps, charts, and tables, and land use reports and recommendations.
