This collection consists of two models of Case Study Houses 5 and 12, homes designed in 1945 and 1946, respectively, but never built by Whitney R. Smith.

The models that comprise this collection were built for the exhibit “Blueprints for Modern Living: History and Legacy of the Case Study Houses” which showed for 5 months (October 1989 to February 1990) at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. The exhibit was curated by Elizabeth Smith and entailed full-scale walk-through constructions of original Case Study houses which were presented together with models, drawings, photographs, and design objects.
