    Historical Note

    The University of California Police Department (UCPD) was established as a state law-enforcement agency by the Regents in September 1947. University of California, Irvine, Police Department (UCIPD), also commonly referred to as UCI Public Safety, is responsible for the public safety and well-being of the UCI campus including the UCI Medical Center. It has five separate public safety functions: Patrol, Administration, Emergency Management, Communications Unit, and Investigations.

    Collection Scope and Content Summary

    The University of California, Irvine Police Department scrapbooks include collected newspaper articles, clippings, and photographs about events regarding department activity from 1992-2004. Of note are collected news articles relating to the Police Department's first female police chief, Kathleen Stanley; the UCPD newsletter, UCPD Newsline, and annual photographs of police officers. Other materials include a folder about the University of California Police Department history, early maps of UCI, and one plaque awarded to the CSO Program by the California College & University Police Chiefs Association in 2002.

    The collection is arranged chronologically with the exception of the UCPD history file which is filed last.

    Appraisal Note

    Materials were removed from original albums which reduced the size of the collection from 2 linear feet to 1.5 linear feet.
