    Scope and Contents

The Fort Huachuca African American Photograph Collection (circa 1940s-1950s) contains 40 black-and-white photographs featuring groups of men and women posing in front of buildings, with dogs, on a horse, and posing in front of the Colonel Young School, as well as images of tents, military vehicles, and cannons. One photograph has an inscription on the back: "love to all J.R.M.". Two photographs are only partial, with one looking as if it was cut, and the other, torn. Most if not all of the images were taken at Fort Huachuca in Arizona- an all African American military base, presumably by a military family that was stationed there.
