Description
This collection includes the course materials, research reports, notes, and professional
papers created by Collman during his decades long career as a chemist.
Background
James Paddock Collman, born in 1932 in Beatrice, Nebraska, embarked on his chemistry
journey at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. His doctoral research at the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign centered on Grignard reagents. In 1967, he joined Stanford
University as a Professor of Chemistry. Amidst numerous accolades, his accomplishments
include election to the National Academy of Sciences in 1975 and being named California
Scientist of the Year in 1983.
Restrictions
While University Archives is the owner of the physical and/or digital items, permission to
examine collection materials is not an authorization to publish. These materials are made
available for use in research, teaching, and private study. Any transmission or reproduction
beyond that allowed by fair use requires permission from the owners of rights, heir(s) or
assigns.
Availability
Materials related to fellowships, grant proposals, and student records are restricted until
75 years after date of creation. Otherwise, materials are open for research use.
