    Biographical / Historical

    Pete Castro was born on January 31, 1915, to Medehildo Castro and Delfina Rodriguez in Los Angeles, California. Castro graduated from University High School in 1932 and served in the Navy during World War II. Castro worked as a stone mason prior to the Second World War and as a lead man during the 1950s. Castro married Josephine Luna on December 6, 1937. Josephine Luna Castro was born circa March 19, 1913, in Mexico to Lorenzo Luna and Dolores Castillo, possibly named Genara Castillo Luna per the United States Federal Census. The Luna family migrated to California in 1914. Josephine was one of ten siblings by 1930. Josephine and Pete Castro had a child named Roberta Margarita Castro on July 18, 1945.

    Scope and Contents

    The Castro Family Album Collection (1937-1942; undated) contains one photo album and 0.21 linear ft. of material. The box contains photos of the Castro family and friends in the 1930s and 1940s. Several of the photos were taken and developed in photo studios in the Los Angeles area. Additionally, there are several photos taken in Tijuana, Mexico, photos of men dressed in Navy uniforms, photos in front of camps, working on a car, portraits of children, a photo of Navy men dedicated to his wife "Josie Castro," a photo of the 726th Platoon United States Marine Corps in San Diego, a photo of the Golden Gate Bridge, a photo of the Cliff House and Seal Rocks in San Francisco, several souvenir cutout photographs, small studio photographs of women, photographs of a family harvesting, photos of uniformed men in the back of a truck, three men in a touring car, a man on the hood of a vehicle, a young girl at her first communion ceremony, and photographs of family outings.
