Background
Emilio Aguinaldo y Famy (1869-1964) was a Filipino revolutionary, statesman, and military
leader. He led Philippine forces first against Spain in the Philippine Revolution from 1896
to 1898, then in the Spanish-American War, 1898, and finally against the United States
during the Philippine-American War from 1899 to 1901. Aguinaldo was also the first and
youngest president of the Philippines from 1899 to 1901.
