    Biography/Administrative History

    The Santa Clara County Fire Insurance Company was incorporated in 1900, providing insurance to property owners in Santa Clara County. It appears to have been in business until the late 1960s.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Records of the Santa Clara County Fire Insurance Company. The bulk of the records comprise minutes (1900-1968) and volumes of individual policy applications (1900-1922) for locations throughout Santa Clara County. A policy register and two volumes of insurance ticklers provide a rudimentary index to the volumes of applications. Also included are annual statements to the California Board of Insurance, and original articles of incorporation as well as amendments to bylaws made in 1948. Of interest are the individual policy applications, which provide a wealth of detail on homeowners property, including location of structures, materials used in siding and chimneys, and details of household items and vehicles to be insured.
