    Historical or Biographical Note

    The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (National Park Service) took over the San Francisco Maritime State Historic Park in 1977 and the San Francisco Maritime Museum in 1978. San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park was established by Act of Congress in 1988.
