    Biographical / Historical

    Previously established as the California State Federation of Labor, the California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO was founded in 1901. The California Labor Federation, AFL-CIO consists of 1,200 affiliated unions across the state of California, which operate as appendages of the labor federation. These unions provide organizer training, organizational struture on legislative and political campaigns, and construct progressive alliances centered in social justice.

    Scope and Contents

    The California Labor Federation AFL-CIO collection (1927-2021; undated) consists of 4 boxes and 4 linear feet of materials that includes constitution booklets, correspondence, training manuals, and other materials related to the Federation's legislative and political campaign initiatives, organizer trainings, and union member support efforts. The bulk of the collection consists of convention booklets and leaflets from the Biennial and Pre-Primary conventions and voter information fliers.

    Arrangement

    Materials are arranged into 4 series, which are organized topically. Within each series, files are arranged alphabetically, and within each physical folder, original order is maintained.
