    Abstract: Little is known about Hilda Jarmuth, an early aviatrix who was born on November 22, 1900. She may have been a member of the Ninety-Nines Club, which was founded on November 2, 1929, for the mutual support and advancement of women pilots. The collection contains numerous color and black and white photos of Jarmuth’s family, friends and various travels spanning the course of over 50 years, as well as miscellaneous business cards and a travel diary kept by Jarmuth during a 1937 trip from England to Egypt in which she visited Cairo and Alexandria.

    Scope and Contents

    Collection consists of 1 box, 12”x5”x10. The collection contains numerous color and black and white photos of Jarmuth’s family, friends and various travels spanning the course of over 50 years, as well as miscellaneous business cards and a travel diary kept by Jarmuth during a 1937 trip from England to Egypt in which she visited Cairo and Alexandria.

    Biographical / Historical

    Little is known about Hilda Jarmuth, an early aviatrix who was born on November 22, 1900. She may have been a member of the Ninety-Nines Club, which was founded on November 2, 1929, for the mutual support and advancement of women pilots. She was married to Charles F. Jarmuth in Cook County, Illinois, on June 12, 1923. She was widowed in 1927 when Charles drowned while attempting to rescue her from an undertow. Around 1949, she remarried to his first cousin, Louis T. Jarmuth. While little more is known about her other than she traveled extensively, she passed away in Los Angeles, CA, on July 1, 1976.
