Description
This collection contains a typed manuscript copy of La Casa de Aguirre of Santa Barbara, 1841-1884 by S. E. A. Higgins, including copy prints of the photographs to be used in the publication. This collection also includes a copy of the volume published by the Press of El Barbareno, Santa Barbara, California, 1896.
Background
Mrs. S. E. A. Higgins was for a reporter for the Santa Barbara Independent newspaper for 15 years. She was also an officer for the Santa Barbara Grange, 1874; the Superintendent of Press Work, and president, Santa Barbara County, W.C.T.U. of Southern California, 1888-89; and active in Pacific Coast Woman's Press Association, 1892. She coauthored a booklet of verse, Flowers of the Sea, published 1895, and wrote the historical pamphlet La Casa de Aguirre of Santa Barbara, 1841-1884, published in 1896.
