    Abstract: Ralph D. Keown was a private in the United States Army Signal Corps. The Ralph D. Keown album includes 155 photographs of related to his time in the Southeastern Signal School camp in Camp Gordon, Georgia, as well as photographs depicting scenes around Tokyo, Japan and other unidentified locations.

    Biographical Note

    Keown was a private in the United States Army Signal Corps. He was stationed in occupied Japan and worked at the General Headquarters of the Allied Forces in Tokyo.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Includes 155 photographs of Camp Gordon, Georgia; Tokyo, Japan; and unidentified locations. The photographs depict scenes around Tokyo and soldiers in uniform and off-duty on base. There are hand-written annotations throughout the album identifying soldiers and buildings. Also included in the album: Keown's certificate from "The Southeastern Signal School Camp Gordon, Ga.", dated August 4, 1951; a color-illustrated certificate, "Domain of the Golden Dragon Ruler of the 180th Meridian"; and a newspaper article dated May 2, 1952, that shows rioters at the Imperial Palace Plaza.
