Description
Papers of Edward A. Frieman, physicist, prominent government advisor, and Director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography (1986-1996). The collection documents Frieman's consulting and committee work, as well as his time at Princeton University, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), and Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
Background
Edward A. Frieman was born on January 19, 1926 in New York City. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy as a deep-sea diving officer. Shortly after the war, Frieman participated in the atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll.
