The collection contains meeting minutes, planning documents concerning WAVES community programs, Project 10 materials, organization newsletters, correspondence (including with city officials), and other documents, 1987-1991.

Biographical / historical:

WAVES, the Santa Monica Bay Area Lesbian and Gay Alliance was an organization founded in 1987 by a group of lesbians and gay men to enhance the lives of their community living in the Santa Monica area. Under the acronym WAVES, which stands for "We Advocate Visibility, Equality, and Strength," the organization was involved in a variety of political, social, and community projects, including the passage in 1988 of the Santa Monica anti-AIDS discrimination ordinance and the implementation of Project 10, a dropout prevention program, at Santa Monica High School.
