Description
Souvenir album of photographs of Lude House, Blair Atholl, the surrounding area in Perthshire, Scotland, and a deerstalking party attended by W.L. Winans, and his son Walter Winans.
Background
Scottish photographer of Dundee, well-known for portraits and landscape view. James Valentine, joined in his studio by his sons, William Dobson Valentine, and George D. Valentine, targeted the middle and upper class tourist market, producing drawing room albums of landscapes of Scotland, and later, England, Jamaica, Norway, Morocco, and New Zealand.

Photographs (19 x 24 cm) are mounted on rectos of leaves of stiff cardboard, one to a page; captions pencilled on mount below photograph.

Bound in brown leather album; gold-stamped title, "Souvenir of Lude 1871" within triple borders of gilt and black rules; photographer's name below title: "By special appointment. J. Valentine, Photographer, Dundee;" textured white endpapers; all edges gilt.

Spec. Coll. copy: in modern beige cloth clamshell box, with spine title "Valentine. Souvenir of Luve [sic]."
